stroke IMPROVEMENT and swimfit
Stroke Improvement
Perhaps you are a competent swimmer and want to improve your swimming technique.
Many of us can ‘sort of’ swim but get all tangled up in our breathing or other aspects of technique which severely limit how far or how fast we can swim. Changing bad swimming habits can be relatively easily taught. Changing your stroke or breathing will feel a little weird at first but, once incorporated into your normal swimming routine, new techniques will quickly become routine.
Stroke correction classes concentrate on techniques of the four competitive strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly (but with an emphasis on freestyle as it is the most efficient stroke) rather than being a heavy workout.
Swimfit
The swimfit class, on the other hand, is a squad-type training session focusing on cardio-respiratory conditioning, strength, endurance and weight loss, but with some assistance with stroke correction as well. It caters for those who can swim at least 50 metres non-stop all the way up to masters or triathlete level. All swimming abilities are catered for and I allocate swimmers into different lanes depending on ability.
I prepare training programs for each level which will progress gradually over a number of weeks and with a variety of training techniques and aids to improve fitness and to retain interest. The aim will be to extend yourself a little each week to improve your fitness. How hard you push yourself is up to you; you do what you able or want to do.
Where and when?
For the summer months (September to April), we are at Murrumba Downs Aquatic Centre at the corner of Dohles Rock Road and Ogg Road, Murrumba Downs.
For the winter months (May to August), we may use a number of other pools. Contact me if you would like to swim during winter.
Classes are one hour long and are held at 9am, 10am and 11am on Sundays. We also have mid week sessions on Wednesdays at the Emily Seebohm Aquatic Centre at Fitzgibbon at 8am. We also have a mid week evening session on Thursdays from 6.30pm to 7.30pm at the Redcliffe Aquatic Centre.
Bookings are essential. For more information, or to make a booking, please contact Mark on 0438 652 696 or mark@otteraquatics.com.au.
